Summary: Albert is a student of physics and 25 years old. He goes to university several times a week. Two times a week, he works at a bar to finance his study. He lives in a flat share with two other students in Marseille, France. He wouldn't call himself a computer expert, but has enough confidence in his computer literacy to learn to handle new applications quickly and easily without external help.
He has to work at many different places at university, and at home, too, so he had decided to buy a laptop a couple of years ago. Albert has been chosen to be the primary persona for this project. We will design for him as the primary target user.

[edit] Martin, the Computer Professional
Summary: Martin is 29 and has been using computers since he got his first computer at the age of twelve. He is living with his girl-friend in Seattle, WA, in the United States. He has studied computer science, and today, he is developing websites for a small company. When using computers, he likes to try out new applications and to learn about new features. He likes it if software tools have many features and options to choose from, and if he's got the time, he spends a while to adapt a tool to his needs. Martin's real home is the console. Typing complicated, but flexible shell commands makes him feel safe.
Computing is also a hobby of Martin's, and he uses computers, mobile phone and palmtop not only for practical use, but also for joy. Martin is a secondary persona, which means we also design for him, but never against the needs of Albert.

[edit] Sophie, the Markteting Consultant
Summary: Sophie is 36 and lives in Berlin, Germany, with her husband and a daughter. She is working as regional marketing consultant for the German branch office of Sun Powersystems, an international operating company that produces and sells solar energy equipment.
Her experience with computers is mostly limited to using standard applications like web browser, email client, text processor and spreadsheet application. She likes if application are clean and simple, with only the functions she needs. Sophie's task at Sun is to contact potential customers, to stay in touch with current customers and assist the development of new products. When developing new products she cooperates with several people from different departments. Sophie is a secondary persona, which means we also design for her, but never against the needs of Albert.
