[edit] Scenario title: Albert is outlining a text in collaboration with other students

Albert collects infos, citations and ideas to get prepare a text together with other students.

Problem Scenario Future Scenario
Together with two fellow students, Marie and Pablo, Albert has to write a scientific report about quantum physics. They decide to collect infos on the topic each his/her own and to share these infos afterwards.

After a week, Albert looks through the notes of Marie (using BasKet) and Pablo (using OpenOffice Writer) and copies interesting links and quotes in his basket. They decide to work independently, but to collect ideas or quotes for a combined conclusion, and to send around their outlines frequently. Albert is annoyed about the different format Pablo uses. It would be much easier to share citations and such if they had one basket together.

When he wants to start writing the text, Alberts finds he cannot just copy the basket contents with its structure into OpenOffice.

Complete problem scenario

Now the three students work on a network-shared basket. Each one has his/her own sections to work in. They have also set up one section for the conclusion.

If he wants to see what changes Marie has made in the last week, Albert opens her basket and lets BasKet highlight the notes that were changed during the last week.

When he is ready to start formulating the text, Albert exports the basket to an OpenOffice text file. It is then already structured into chapters, sections and paragraphs.

Complete future scenario

[edit] Claims

Image:pro.png Albert can import text files (exported from OpenOffice), links are preserved
Image:con.png OpenDocument formatting is not preserved, though.
Image:con.png no reasonable way to use a basket together.
Image:con.png Albert cannot merge differences from files sent
Image:con.png Marie's changed baskets are handled as totally different, unrelated baskets.
Image:con.png there is no reasonable way for Albert to copy a basket's contents into a text processor, preserving links and formatting.

[edit] Claims

Image:pro.png the students can use one basket together
Image:pro.png changes are synchronized transparently and can be made visible
Image:pro.png a page in a basket can be used for shared info, the others for each student. This is a social agreement, not a technical constraint.
Image:pro.png outline can be used as a starting point for a text document, formatting can be adjusted, so only little adjustments are needed
